Yuji Masaki must be giving Phil Ivey nightmares

posted on July 14, 2010

Phillip D. “Phil” Ivey is arguably the world’s best poker player of all time some might say.  The American poker professional has won not less than eight World Series of Poker bracelets as well as one World Poker Tour title. He has appeared at eight different World Poker Tour final tables.

He’s listed as the player to have achieved the highest amount of tournament winnings ever. He’s also considered to be one of the players to have earned the most at cash game. This is why he’s considered by most to be the best all-around player in the world.

There’s only really one thing lacking in his career and that is to win the Main Event in the World Series of Poker. Unfortunately for him 2010 was not going to be the year he won the WSOP.

One of the biggest reasons for his departure from the World Series of Poker’s day 2b was going up against PokerLoco sponsored player and Activist Yuji Masaki. Yuji is a long time professional poker player from Hiroshima, Japan who so far in the 41st World Series of Poker 2010 had managed to grab a 251st place in the Event #49 – WSOP No Limit Hold’em.

Phil Ivey went all-in with a pair of queens on hand against Yuji Masaki’s pair of kings during Day 2b, something he will surely regret. The flop showed 883 followed by a queen on the turn which had Ivey looking to be on top. However, just as things looked bright for the American superstar the River showed king of hears making Yuji Masaki the winner.

As Ivey had more chips than Masaki he was not eliminated and remained in the game, all though down 1,900 in chips and seriously damaged by the blow from the PokerLoco player from Japan.

It didn’t take long after this for Ivey to be eliminated.

How did it go for Yuji after this?

Unfortunately Yuji Masaki was eliminated during day 3 of the main event. More will follow on that subject later in this news section together with pictures and further coverage.
