Yuji busts out of WSOP 2009

During this year’s WSOP, World Series of Poker, PokerLoco player Yuju Masaki went to try his luck and enjoy the great atmosphere that Las Vegas has to offer.

He played two $2000 No-limit Holdem(Event 32 & Event 36) tournaments during his stay. Unfortunately he was knocked out of Event 32 on the first day.

He then went on to Event 36 the next day.

The event started with 1’695 players and Yuji was one of the 213 players that made it through to Day 2. Unfortunately he started the second day being short stacked. To end in the money, he needed to place at least 171. Sadly he was knocked out as there were only 20 places to the money.

This means Yuji’s WSOP adventure was over. Surely he will be back for WSOP next year again. Next up this year he will challenge some of the Asian poker tours.

We wish him all the best in his future endeavors of 2009!

Beat the Activist proves a great success!

The first ever beat the Activist tournament was played on the 29th of March.

We saw 142 players battling it our against the Activists and we considered to be a huge success and much appreciated tournament amongst the players. The Activists had a hard time this night and the only Activist to make it in the money was Activist_Yuji. Yuju who last year finished 5th place in the APPT(Asian Pacific Poker Tour) finall made it to 7th place.

After a couple of hours play we saw Mad_Falcon coming up on top, receiving a nice $136. We also paid out $300 to players that had knocked 1 or more Activists out of the tournament. Good fun!

Be sure to not miss the next Beat the Activist tournament!

PokerLoco player unlucky in EPT Warsaw

We got the chance to talk to PokerLoco’s Andrej Nagy who played the EPT Warsaw recently. Andrej had a good run that unfortunately ended with an unlucky Bad Beat. During EPT Warsaw Andrej got to play with some of the big names in poker including Johnny Lodden, Ricardo Sousa and Gavin Griffin. When not playing live tournaments he can be found the NL200-400 tables at PokerLoco. He considers he’s strengths to be willingness to gamble, loosing small when holding second best hand and his patience. He started playing poker two and a half years ago by playing freerolls and immediately won some cash and went on to play cash games where he really started to earn big. After 10 months he was holding a bankroll of 20’000USD. After that he decided to try life as a poker pro and after winning another 20’000USD during his first month as a pro he has went on to play poker full-time online and at some of the world's major Live Events

Summary of Andrej’s days at this year’s EPT Warsaw

Day 1

Andrej Nagy, Slovakia represented PokerLoco at this year’s EPT Warsaw and he got off to a great start on day 1 when he hit a full house on the first hand. During the first two levels of play Andrej went from starting chips at 10’000 to 18’000 and was looking good. After losing 8’000 chips against an aggressive player Andrej switched seat just to end up with poker star Johnny Lodden to his left. After going agains Lodden with a pair of aces on the hand, Lodden folded after Nagy’s raise on the turn and Andrej Nagy ended the day with 5600 in chips.

Day 2

Andrej planned on gambling during day 2 with blinds going up to 300/600 and on the fifth hand he managed to pocket kings while sitting on Big Blind. Perfect! After winning that hand he went up to 14’000 in chips and was once again looking good. He then had to wait about 25 hands before finally hitting another great hand, Ace King suited and went all-in just to be called by a guy holding pocket Jacks. The flop came with K, 8, 5. The turn showed a 4 and Andrej was looking like the winner, the only thing that could ruin his plans was if Jack came up on the River. The River came… and it showed, a Jack!! That meant the end to Andrej’s run at the EPT Warsaw and indeed it was unlucky with the guy hitting his only out on the River.

Andrej has planned to play the upcoming EPT Prague, PCA EPT, LAPT and of course next year’s WSOP. We wish him all the best in any future live events!

Poker star giving away logo to charity

Regardless of how the Final Table of the WSOP Main Event turns out in November, Dennis Phillips will still be a winner in the minds of the people at the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Since The 16th of October companies as well as individuals have been able to bid on eBay for logo placement on Phillips shirt during his attempt to become the 2008 WSOP Main Event Champion. The bids quite quickly reached $13,000 on that very same day, all though it is likely that the final bid will be much higher.

Phillips, who is a longtime supporter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, first became involved in the fight against MS when his brother was diagnosed with it over 10 years ago.

"Being on the final table of the WSOP is an opportunity of a lifetime, but we hope that this opportunity will one day save someone's life," said Phillips.

Phillips surprised many when he outlasted 6,836 players before making a serious drive to finish atop the chip counts on the last day of the 2008 Main Event before the final table. Phillips finished with 26 million chips, which was 2 million more than his closest opponent Ivan Demidov. The WSOP final table will take place on Nov. 9 with the nine remaining players battling for their share of $32 million.
